To the Editor: Dr van der Meer and colleagues1 demonstrated that sustained virological response (SVR) to interferon-based treatment is associated with lower all-cause mortality among patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and advanced hepatic fibrosis. As a secondary aim, the authors evaluated the effect of SVR on the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma.
