More than 20 years ago Gilbert Fletcher of the M. D. Anderson Hospital and Cancer Center in Houston, Tex, edited (and largely wrote) a textbook of radiation therapy based on principles and methods used at that august institution; it went through several editions. In the 1950s Paterson in Manchester, England, had accomplished the same task and described in detail the techniques employed at Christie Hospital and the Holt Radium Institute. Those were the two works in English describing unified systems of treatment at world-renowned institutions.
