Just 2 months after announcing an initiative to act on backlogged compensation claims from military veterans, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has adjudicated more than 65 000 claims, or 97% of all claims more than 2 years old.
The initiative involved implementing mandatory overtime for the Veterans Benefits Administration’s claims processing staff, while physicians from the Veterans Health Administration assisted in quickly providing medical evidence needed to assess pending claims. In general, the remaining 2-year-old claims will be finalized “in the coming days,” the VA said.
