Obesity treatments including diet, exercise, and behavior modification, while successful in the short-term, may fail with time in a significant number of patients. Research has shown that only 20% of overweight individuals are successful at long-term weight loss when success is defined as losing at least 10% of initial body weight and maintaining the loss for at least 1 year.1,2
