Controversy Over Contraception Coverage

To the Editor Dr Gossett and colleagues asserted that contraception is a fundamental preventive health service that should be federally mandated without exemption.1 A major flaw in the Viewpoint is that pregnancy was treated as a preventable disease. Women’s health is more fully promoted when women’s fertility is considered a natural, healthy state not in need of medication.
