The ongoing public health investigation into a multistate outbreak of multidrug-resistant Salmonella Heidelberg shows that as of November 15, 389 people in 23 states and Puerto Rico have been infected.
About 40% of those who became ill were hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported. Local, state, and federal investigators have indicated that chicken from 3 California facilities of poultry producer Foster Farms is the likely source of the infections. Nearly three-fourths of the outbreak cases have been reported in California.
