In preparation for clothing donation
i began with socks
sock drawer filled with socks
running dress knee calf ankle toe
thong sock silk cotton.
With only two feet
how could you have so many.
Cleaning socks already clean
but making sure
to match and fold each of the hundreds
most carefully with tenderness and tears.
Your feet
they surrounded
that i smooth and pat
flat now
no more fitted with feet
cute toes i pulled
nails my canvas
soles needing deep massage after a day's standing.
Why did you go
these poor socks have lost their meaning without you.
Like socks
i was
filled with you
have got to start all over
that's what they tell me
new socks
okay to find new feet
but i just hate the whole damn thing.
