As defined in this text, “Pharmaceutical medicine is the discipline that specializes in overseeing the process of developing new therapeutics to improve the standard of health and the quality of life within society.” Pharmaceutical medicine is becoming widely recognized as a medical specialty. This updated second edition of Principles and Practice of Pharmaceutical Medicine should serve as a useful classroom text for individuals enrolled in specialized training courses and likewise as a reference for those practicing in the field. The editors claim that the book is for all those working in pharmaceutical medicine, regardless of their degrees, titles, or affiliations. However, the language within the book seems to speak more cogently to those with medical degrees.
