Severe flooding in West Africa has displaced more than 200 000 individuals and is increasing health risks in the region, including the threat of cholera and malaria outbreaks, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned last month. WHO identified 6 countries in particular as being in urgent need of international assistance: Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, and Togo (http://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/releases/2008/pr28/en/index.html).
