Seasons of Aging

JAMA. 2008;300(13):1496. doi:10.1001/jama.300.13.1496

You step into the woods of time,
leaves turn
in a timepiece of seasons.
Spring buds crawl open
to possibilities.
Summer roses simmer to a heat.
Autumn gold displays
its wealth, a multitude.
Winter thinness reveals suffering,
its body incubates your essence.
Walk barefoot on the memories—
sadness, like rain drips from wilted leaves,
joy, like song sparrows serenade
decayed branches of years.
