In War Surgery in Afghanistan and Iraq, LTC Shawn Nessen, USA, COL Dave Lounsbury, USA (Ret), and COL Steve Hetz, USA (Ret), have collected a large number of cases seen in Afghanistan and Iraq between 2003 and 2007. Traditionally, books like this fail because they inadequately cover the subject matter. The attempts to collect enough cases to illustrate all points in injury care is indeed a daunting task; however, the authors have come as close to realizing this as anyone ever has. The organization of the book is unique and easy to comprehend. The case presentations are quite succinct. Teaching points as well as clinical implications are highlighted to make them easy to follow and to aid in understanding the important lessons.
