Although the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has made progress in preparing for an influenza pandemic, significant challenges remain, said the Government Accountability Office (GAO) in a report released September 30.
The GAO recommended that the DHHS “expeditiously finalize guidance to assist state and local jurisdictions to determine how to effectively use limited supplies of antivirals and pre-pandemic vaccine in a pandemic, including prioritizing target groups for pre-pandemic vaccine” (http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d08671.pdf).
