Tracking Health Services Research Studies—Reply

JAMA. 2008;300(19):2252. doi:10.1001/jama.2008.613

In Reply: I thank Drs Zarin and Tse for their suggestion that ClinicalTrials.gov could be used to publicly report methods of health services research and health policy studies, and eventually their results. I encourage health services researchers to engage with the administrators of this registry.

If such registries can be designed to provide suitable information about health services research and health policy studies, and if journals agreed that registration would be required before the studies could be published, then the public may be better served. Health services researchers, health policy analysts, journal editors, and directors of registries should work together to explore this further.
