Children today are being treated at home more frequently and for more complicated medical disorders. There are 3 principal reasons for this trend: (1) technological advances are making care outside the hospital safe and feasible; (2) parents increasingly wish to care for their sick children at home; and (3) the ever-increasing cost of hospital care makes home care a more economical alternative. As society moves in the direction of more widespread pediatric home health care, the parties involved in the delivery of care need to understand the implications of home health care delivery and receive guidance while providing care in particular situations.
