Six medical centers in North America are recruiting more than 600 men with unexplained pelvic discomfort or pain for the Chronic Prostatitis Cohort Study, a 5-year, $5.5-million effort funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
The project is the first sizable multicenter study designed to obtain well-defined, detailed, clinical information on chronic abacterial prostatitis, with the aim of obtaining a better understanding of the natural history of the infection. After collecting such data, the investigators will use the information as a base to evaluate new treatment strategies.
