There's serious money behind efforts to win the hearts, minds, and modems of physicians.In a computer era when the right business concept leads to an Amazon.com Inc or eBay Inc making their founders billionaires practically overnight, it's not surprising that entrepreneurs and venture capitalists are eyeing health care and physicians.
Many analysts consider the emerging online medical marketplace as having the potential to make a few more billionaires. And while some will become rich and others go broke, their endeavors will change the way physicians in the United States practice medicine. Already they're being bombarded by patients who get information about health care problems from a host of Internet sources. Patients are also increasingly using the computer to interact with physicians through e-mail.
