This second edition of The Breast, edited by Bland and Copeland, builds on their monumental 1991 publication The Breast: Comprehensive Management of Benign and Malignant Diseases. The first edition truly represented current opinion at that time, but almost a decade has elapsed, during which there has been an explosion of basic research in many disciplines that impact on the breast. Along with this has come increasing consensus on surgical therapies and novel uses of immunotherapy, gene therapy, and bone marrow transplants. This almost exponential accumulation of information related to breast diseases has made the need for an update obligatory.
