In the annals of medical literature, the 1990s will be remembered, among other ways, as the decade of proliferation of textbooks on pain management. Aronoff's first edition of Evaluation and Treatment of Chronic Pain was one of the first books on the block attempting to consolidate the various and sometimes discordant perspectives on chronic pain management. With this most recent edition, the decade will end with a textbook more encompassing than many of those published in the interim.
