This is a much anticipated and properly updated fifth edition of the encyclopedic textbook that since 1955 has been the comprehensive reference on surgery of the alimentary tract. The five-volume Shackelford's Surgery of the Alimentary Tract maintains its now classic layout: volume 1, "Esophagus," volume 2, "Stomach and Duodenum, Incisions," volume 3, "Pancreas, Biliary Tract, Liver and Portal Hypertension, Spleen," volume 4, "Colon, Rectum and Anus," and volume 5, "Mesenteric Circulation, Hernia, Small Intestine." The individual volume editors are renowned, and represented among the contributing authors are leading practitioners and investigators.
