The American Journal of Bioethics calls itself an experiment in bioethical dialogue and publishing style. The journal aims to buck the trend of specialization in journals and to reach a broad audience. The stated target audience for the journal is extensive: "the clinical, legal, academic, scientific, religious, and broad community-at-large." The editors say that bioethics is particularly suited for such a cross-disciplinary appeal although it may prove difficult to satisfy the varied interests of multiple fields.
