HIV Medicine was launched in 1999 as the official journal of the British HIV Association and the European AIDS Clinical Society. The editors are European, and all are highly regarded members of the HIV scientific research community. The editorial panel is international and represents a broad range of expertise in HIV science and clinical medicine.
The journal's stated goal is to serve as an alternative outlet for publication of international research papers in the field of HIV medicine, by which presumably is meant an alternative to journals with a more North American focus. The journal seeks to concentrate on evidence-based medicine. In addition to considering research submissions, it also commissions reviews and other feature articles. In the first two volumes it is meeting these goals. Structured abstracts from meetings sponsored by the British HIV Association and the European AIDS Clinical Society are also published in this journal, with a useful separate index.
