My inner tiger
paces, claws
at his cage tonight,
will not be put down.
I am his keeper,
know him well,
perhaps tomorrow
he will lie down,
still as a lamb,
his head between his paws
as I have seen him
many times,
but not tonight.
He paces, paces,
wants his freedom.
What if I opened
the cage door wide?
Would he escape?
Would he survive?
Would I?
