To the Editor: Dr Leveille and colleagues1 demonstrated an association between chronic musculoskeletal pain and falls in their prospective cohort study in Boston. The authors noted in their discussion that “[p]ain may be a marker for underlying pathology or treatments that could contribute to falls” and adjusted for several potential intermediate factors, including spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis, and sedative use. The association remained significant after adjusting for these factors.
