In Reply We are in full agreement with Drs Huckvale and Car that for mHealth devices to achieve their potential of patient-centeredness, design and implementation are important. As they note, a device or app alone cannot be expected to adequately address the many gaps in care that currently exist. Like medications, not every app or device will be equally helpful for all individuals. As the pragmatic clinical trials needed to provide the real-world evidence required to drive change are performed, at the same time efforts are needed to identify the best, longest-lasting solutions for individuals and develop methods to identify those solutions prospectively.
