UV Light and MS

JAMA. 2010;303(17):1686. doi:10.1001/jama.2010.527

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is more common in higher latitudes than around the equator, and some studies have suggested that UV light suppresses MS symptoms through production of vitamin D. Now, new studies in a mouse model of MS suggest that UV light may play a bigger role than vitamin D in controlling symptoms of MS (Becklund B et al. Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. doi:10.1073/pnas.1001119107 [published online ahead of print March 22, 2010]).
