Read by medical students and residents for more than 2 decades, Andreoli and Carpenter's Cecil Essentials of Medicine is a classic text. The eighth edition, like previous editions, is divided into sections by organ system. Each section starts with an overview of basic biology followed by chapters on the pathophysiology and treatment of major diseases, then concludes with a prospectus for the future, briefly summarizing anticipated developments in the field. Some sections cover broader topics, such as molecular medicine, the aging patient, bioterrorism, and substance abuse.
