Life in the Balance provides fascinating insight into the development of resuscitation for cardiac and respiratory arrest. The author, Mickey S. Eisenberg, MD, gives a complete history of resuscitation in a style that will appeal to physician, scientist, and lay reader.

The book includes brief definitions of terms throughout the text and a glossary. As a physician, I did not find the definitions at all disruptive or an obstacle to enjoyment of this excellent historical review of the science behind resuscitation.
