FTC Urged to Reduce Marketing of Unhealthy Foods to Kids

JAMA. 2014;312(14):1389. doi:10.1001/jama.2014.13250

Reducing the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages to children should be a top priority of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), a group of congressional Democrats wrote in a September 3 letter to FTC chairwoman Edith Ramirez (http://1.usa.gov/Wf7JMB).

“We were greatly disappointed to hear that… the [FTC] is not actively working on projects focused on food marketing to children,” wrote the lawmakers, led by Sen Tom Harkin (D, Iowa) and Rep Rosa DeLauro (D, Conn). “This is unacceptable.”
