Patients with diabetes mellitus have long been recognized as having a much greater incidence of coronary artery disease (CAD), which is a major factor in their poorer long-term outcomes.1 This has led to the recognition that patients with diabetes merit more intensive lipid treatment, which is reflected in the latest guidelines.2
