A US government document intended to improve the health care of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people is now available.
Healthy People 2010 Companion Document for LGBT Health is a 500-page book about the multicultural LGBT community written for physicians, other health care practitioners, consumers, researchers, educators, clinic personnel, and others. It was released March 30.
The book focuses on some 120 objectives and 12 focus areas from the recently published Healthy People 2010 document, the federal blueprint for public health for the next 10 years. Among the focus areas are access to quality health services, mental health, public health infrastructure, HIV/AIDS, immunization and infectious diseases, tobacco, injury and violence prevention, and substance abuse.
