A Piece of My Mind Section Editor: Roxanne
K. Young, Associate Editor.
I love to learn. That's why I am a teacher. I was a teacher of mathematics
and science before I went to medical school. I was a teacher of health care
to my patients in private practice, and I have been a teacher of family practice
residents for the past seven years. Teaching ensures continued learning—and
I love to learn. Given that I am a lifelong learner and teacher, it is no
surprise that intellectualization is my favorite coping mechanism. Thus, one
of the ways I made sense out of the senselessness of my husband's experience
was to look for opportunities to learn.
