I entered my medical school application process like most applicants—hoping
for the best and expecting the worst. For 12 months, I experienced both. I
rode the highs of invitations to interview and acceptances, and survived the
lows of rejections and wait lists. These things I was prepared for. But the
rest, the other experiences that defined my medical school application process,
was a complete surprise. Although I will be entering medical school in Fall
2002, some of my experiences made me seriously reconsider my decision to be
