Since the first edition of this book in 1993, public attention has increasingly
focused on the need for ethics education for the scientists and health workers
involved in research and experimental therapeutics. The authors' experience
teaching such a course, centered on this text, has been used in producing
this update. The second edition adds to its title the words "and Health" in
recognition of newly included articles primarily concerned with research using
human and animal subjects. The editors have retained nearly half the original
works of the first edition, which continue to serve the objectives well, and
have added 25 new essays.
