Medicare Fix on the Way

JAMA. 2003;289(9):1093. doi:10.1001/jama.289.9.1093-a

A decade ago, the Clinton administration pushed for legislation to provide health care insurance for everyone. The effort died a painful death, but Sen John Breaux (D-La) has revived the idea and introduced legislation that would mandate health insurance for every US resident.

Under the bill, introduced in late January, every resident would be required to carry health insurance, with subsidies going to those who are currently uninsured.

At the recent National Health Policy forum, Breaux said that the plan will help fix the current piecemeal system.
