In Reply: Dr Gandjour suggests that, because
we used a validated questionnaire capable of detecting clinically meaningful
changes in patients' HRQL, it is self-evident that the provision of such feedback
will be of use.
Although the questionnaire has proven its usefulness in clinical research
(eg, in comparing the HRQL of groups of patients), little is known about its
value when used at the level of the individual patient. Rather than simply
assuming the value of structured HRQL information in daily clinical practice,
we believe that it is essential to demonstrate this empirically.
