Letters Section Editor: Stephen J. Lurie,
MD, PhD, Senior Editor.
To the Editor: Dr Irwin and colleagues1 found that regular exercise resulted in reduced
body weight and fat among overweight and obese postmenopausal women. We have
2 concerns about these conclusions.
First, their sample appeared to be a highly selected group, with as
many as 41% having had a higher education. It is possible that their results
only apply to their highly motivated sample, and not to overweight and obese
postmenopausal women in general.
