Books, Journals, New Media Section Editor: Harriet
S. Meyer, MD, Contributing Editor, JAMA; David H. Morse, MS, University
of Southern California, Norris Medical Library, Journal Review Editor.
This weighty anthology contains four sections comprising 34 essays by
41 authors. It's not a book to read straight through, but one to sample and
remember, returning often, as one does with important reference works. Most
contributors are from the United States; an international perspective is added
by seven authors from the United Kingdom and one each from Australia, Canada,
Finland, and Italy. Many are well known as luminaries to those who work in
related areas, but the nonspecialist will lament the lack of significant information
about who they are and what they do; a few sentences about each contributor
would surely have earned their space.
