A review of 46 Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers found
"rampant mismanagement of funds and overpayment of both physicians and beneficiaries,"
VA Inspector General Richard Griffin told the House Committee on Veterans
Affairs in May.
In the first of several hearings on the issue, Griffin said that some
VA employees have conducted "elaborate scams," including the theft of $11.2
million worth of oxycodone from medical centers in Atlanta and Boston.
