Clinical trials are the backbone of medical research, but that framework
needs shoring up in its ability to attract participants from the general population.
Researchers have long been frustrated in their ability to attract and
maintain patient participation in clinical trials. Patients often are unaware
of trials or lack access to them. They also can be fearful or suspicious of
the research or worry about added costs .
