Letters Section Editor: Stephen J. Lurie,
MD, PhD, Senior Editor.
To the Editor: Drs Dickersin and Rennie1 called for comprehensive registration of all randomized
clinical trials. They argued that such a repository would allow reciprocal
transfer of knowledge between the institutions conducting the trials and the
community that actively participates in the trials or has an interest in the
study outcomes. It would be a matter of open record as to which studies were
not yet published. Trials that are completed, but yet unpublished, could still
be included in literature reviews. This would ensure a more rigorous appraisal
of all the information available on a treatment.
