Critics Oppose VA Closings

Sen Hillary Clinton (D, New York) is leading an effort to stop the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) from shuttering seven hospitals.

In August, the VA offered a cost-savings plan that would shift resources to outpatient clinics while closing older hospitals. Clinton now leads a group of Republican and Democratic senators who say the VA has not spent enough time studying veterans' long-term and mental health care needs.
