Sen Hillary Clinton (D, New York) is leading an effort to stop the Department
of Veterans Affairs (VA) from shuttering seven hospitals.
In August, the VA offered a cost-savings plan that would shift resources
to outpatient clinics while closing older hospitals. Clinton now leads a group
of Republican and Democratic senators who say the VA has not spent enough
time studying veterans' long-term and mental health care needs.
