An Oklahoma judge handed the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) a
victory in November when she ordered drug-store chain Rx Depot to close its
business of helping patients import pharmaceuticals from Canada.
"This ruling sends a clear signal that those who would put profit before
safety will not be allowed to threaten the public health," noted an FDA statement.
Rx Depot's stores matched its customers, mostly senior citizens, with
Canadian pharmacies that shipped drugs at prices lower than those typically
found in the United States.
