Go to the Mattresses

JAMA. 2003;290(23):3057. doi:10.1001/jama.290.23.3057-a

Goldilocks was ahead of her time. When testing the beds of three bears, the fairy-tale trespasser rejected the too-hard and too-soft mattresses in favor of one that was "just right"—presumably one that was medium-firm.

Now researchers from Spain have the data to confirm Goldilocks' anecdotal findings. Despite conventional wisdom that a firm mattress is best for individuals with lower back pain, they found that a medium-firm mattress is a better choice (Lancet. 2003;362:1599-1604).
