Health Disparities Report

JAMA. 2004;291(6):684. doi:10.1001/jama.291.6.684-b

Some members of Congress are outraged over the deletion of key findings from a Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) report on racial and economic disparities in health care. In a letter to DHHS Secretary Tommy Thompson, eight legislators, led by Rep Henry Waxman (D, Calif) demand an explanation.

"Tampering with scientific conclusions is unethical," they write. "Doing so on an issue of social justice is unacceptable." The legislators also request a detailed plan of how the DHHS intends to address health care disparities.
