To the Editor: Dr Schwartz and colleagues1 found that 73% of respondents would prefer to receive
a total-body CT scan to $1000 in cash. While these results may be accurate
for this particular sample, I doubt that 3 of 4 people would choose a total-body
CT scan over $1000 if they had first been involved in a discussion of cancer
screening. Such a high rate of choosing the CT scan over the cash is more
likely the effect of the survey on the participants than a native preference.
