To the Editor: Anecdotal reports have suggested
that individuals with preexisting human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection
may be at risk for superinfection by different strains of HIV.1-3 We
investigated the incidence of superinfection 6 to 12 months after a first
diagnosis of HIV infection.
