In Reply: Dr Chu has raised a number of issues
regarding our study, which he believes may have led to erroneous conclusions
compared with his study.1 First, while he
describes our study as small, we had 40 participants, all of whom received
laser treatment on one side of the face, and no treatment on the contralateral
side. Chu's study had 41 participants, wherein only 31 participants received
full-face treatments, while 10 others received sham therapy only. He raised
concerns about the dropout rate in our trial, with 26 participants completing
the study. In his study, 27 of 31 laser-treated participants completed the
trial. As we stated in our article, we believe that our dropout rate was a
reflection of patient dissatisfaction with the results.
