A $53-million international effort has lead to the completion of the
first draft of the bovine genome, which is now freely available to biomedical
and agricultural researchers. Contributors to the work included the National
Human Genome Research Institute, the US Department of Agriculture, Genome
Canada, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization of
Australia, and others (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genome/guide/cow/index.html) .
