Senior health officials and politicians are pressing forward with efforts
to establish a European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
Although the new agency would be far smaller than the US Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, in Atlanta, the European Commission (EC),
hopes that, once it opens for business, it will ensure that Europe is better
