The editors of this new, comprehensive pediatric textbook assert in
their preface that “[m]uch of the practical information essential to
the delivery of appropriate care is not available in textbooks.” They
state further, “Our goal in the creation and organization of this text
has been to provide practical information in an easily accessible, learner-friendly
format.” In the foreword Robert J. Haggerty, MD, also states, “The
goal. . . . is to help generalists who practice in the
community and in academic centers to deliver effective care to children and
to serve those who teach children’s health care.” This review
will attempt to evaluate how effectively this goal is met.
